Supercars to Race and Test at Phillip Island in 2019

Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit is thrilled to confirm the return of Supercars to the island in 2019, with the WD-40 Phillip Island 500 to be staged from April 12-14 2019, and the Supercars teams descending on the island in mid-February for testing.

The event will feature the best of Australia’s premier motorsport category, and is perfectly timed with the Easter school break to offer a high horsepower highlight for island visitors.

The confirmed Supercars commitment to Phillip Island was made at the track last week by the Victorian Minister for Tourism and Major Events, John Eren, Supercars legend Mark Skaife and circuit managing director, Fergus Cameron.

Supercars has also nominated the Phillip Island circuit as a test track, with the bulk of Supercars teams expected to attend the February pre-season test.

“We’re delighted to have the Supercars teams returning to Phillip Island in 2019 for not only a championship round but also the February test,

As any fans knows, this island circuit brims with motorsport history and we are lucky to have a track that delivers exciting, tight racing year after year, so bring it on!

Motorsport is a vital contributor to our regional economy.  We’re thankful for the ongoing support of the Victorian government, and the enthusiasm of our local businesses and community, in embracing Supercars, the teams and the fans.”

Said Fergus Cameron.

The Bass Coast Shire Council report, entitled “The Social and Economic Value of Events” released in 2011, highlights the vital role the Phillip Island Grand Prix circuit plays in the economic and social life of the Bass Coast shire.

Of the 87 events contributing to the economic benefit of the Bass Shire, the top 10 were circuit motorsport events. An estimated $107 million came from the Phillip Island circuit’s bike and car activities, with the Supercars weekend providing the local community with a financial gain of just over $20 million (2011 figures).
