
The Shannons Nationals at Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit this weekend present Round 2 of the 2015 Series, with a stellar who’s who of Australian Motorsport in the Australian GT 101, Porsche Carrera Cup ProAm and AMChamps for Production Cars featuring endurance events ranging from 40 minutes to 4 hours.
After the farce earlier this year when the V8 stars were prevented from competing at the Bathurst 12 hour the drivers have jumped on board the Phillip Island event in droves with almost 20 of them competing in the GT 101 and Porsche ProAm races.
Porsche Carrera Cup will present 22 of the fantastic 991 GT3 Cup Cars in 2 X 1 hour ProAm races with a host of V8 Supercar stars in McLaughlin, Percat, Slade, Alex Davison, Owen,Canto and Fiore joining Porsche regulars Steve Richards, Craig Baird, Cam McConville, Nick Mc Bride, Nick Foster, Marc Cini, Tony Bates and many more.
The 4 Hour, Australian Manufacturers Championship round on Sunday which has roots back 41 years to the 1974 Manchamps, enters its third year as The Great Southern 4 with favoured entries including the Mitsubishi EVO 10s for 2013 winner Bob Pearson, with son of his 2013 co-driver Glenn Seton, Aaron on board along with former multi National Rally Champ Rick Bates, whilst 2015 Round 1 winners PIARC father / son team of Robert and Shane Marshall are also a big chance.
The manufacturers represented have undergone a seismic shift with Holden and Ford having only 3 entries and no Subaru WRXs. BMWs have become a popular choice with 6 entered with Renault Megane, Mazda3 and Toyota 86 also represented.
Saturday will be SUPER SATURDAY with year two of the The Australian GT Championship Phillip Island 101 with 35 exotic cars, valued around $15 million in total and including 3 of new McLaren 650s,6 Audi R8 Ultra/LMS, 2 Mercedes SLS, 5 Ferrari 458, 8 Super Porsches, Aston Martin, Lotus, Lamborghini Gallardo and new to the Island a Bentleigh Continental and 2 Reiter 7.9 Litre Chev Camaros racing for 101 Laps or around two and a half hours. An event not to be missed.
The driver lineup shows the regard this category has developed with an avalanche of V8 Supercar Drivers rushing for a Co-Drivers seat. That list includes Garth Tander, Steve Richards, Steve Johnson, James Moffat, Alex Davison, Cam McConville, Warren Luff, Dean Canto, Jonathon Webb, Andre Heimgartner, Andrew Jones, Steve Owen, Marcus Marshall, and Tony D’Álberto. Former Formula Ford Champ / current Island GT Lap Record holder Jack LéBrocq joins McMillan in the Camaro
Round 2 of the Formula Ford Australian Series is a Victorian dominated field headed by Leanne Tander in her newly acquired Mygale, with Luis Leeds and Damon Strongman in similar cars and the Spectrum runners of Nick Allen, Adrian Lazzaro all showing winning form at the recent State Round at the Island.
An exciting the addition is of young international Mitch Martin also in a Spectrum.
The program is rounded out with the super fast Australian Formula 3 Championship.
