Laconic American star Colin Edwards has not wasted time giving his unique take on the MV Agusta International Challenge teams’ event that will headline the 25th anniversary AMCN Island Classic at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit this Australia Day long weekend (January 26-28).
When asked about his first appearance in the cut-throat International Challenge, the 43-year-old two-time WorldSBK champion said:
“We need our heads examined, because we are on bikes that shouldn’t be going that fast. But as soon as the visor goes ‘click’, the ear buds are in and everything fades away we turn into fruit bats. You’re trying to hold the reins on it but something in your head doesn’t let you do it.”
Said Edwards.
Edwards will be joined in the American team by two other hotshot rookies in the form of Jake Zemke and Jason Pridmore, with practice and qualifying for the International Challenge to begin tomorrow (Friday) against teams from Australia, New Zealand and defending champion, the United Kingdom.
Edwards will reunite with his old WorldSBK sparring partner Troy Corser in the International Challenge, while the rider everyone has to beat for individual honours is tireless UK captain Jeremy McWilliams.
Saturday and Sunday will see the elite International Challenge squads compete over four races; backed by more than 500 bikes and 300 riders competing in 56 races of classic bike action.
