Island Magic Hits Phillip Island This Weekend

As the old song goes “Don’t Ya Know its Magic”, sums up this weekend’s ISLAND MAGIC SILVER ANNIVERSARY race meeting at Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit.

25 Years of Island Magic is a milestone PIARC is justifiably proud of.

2015 sees the Cue 1 Hour Tourist Trophy Endurance Race into its second decade with a more compact field of 27 Exotic Sports Cars, including 14 Porsches, 2 Audis, 2 Lamborghinis and various Mercedes, Nissan, Viper, Lotus, Ferrari, Mosler, Ginetta, a lone Mazda and the Australian built Daytona.

The 50K Plate for Sports Sedans backed by Ramada Resort Phillip Island, for the 9th consecutive year, brings 35 of these fast and furious sedans to the circuit to play.

Ramada Resort also provides entertainment for race fans with Document Check in the resort bar on Friday night where the public can mix with the drivers.

The iconic 50K Plate again concludes the Victorian Sports Sedan Championship.

The Phillip Island Formula Ford Trophy this year features a strong contingent of West Australian Formula Ford 1600 cars joining 2015 Victorian Champion Brendan Jones and Australia’s fastest mum Leanne Tander also in the 1600 cars.

Formula Vees return after their 2014 Nationals with a 24 car field of these racers.

The popular Historic Touring Cars will provide entries for the Graham Slater Victorian Historic Touring Car Trophy, with another West Aussie Paul Stubber looking to repeat his 2014 win whilst fighting off a full field of Mustangs, GT Falcons, Torana XU1s, Minis, Cortinas and Chargers etc.

Improved Production fans will be well catered for with a great field, with Ben Schoots heading a throng of RX7 Mazdas challenging Ray Hislop in his Falcon V8 and Commodore VY V8 nemesis Damien Milano, and a host of other makes and models.

Former 944 Victorian Champion Chris Lewis-Williams heads up a small but classy field of Porsche 944 Challenge racers supported by Saloon Cars.

New to the Island Magic spectacular are the 33 Hyundai Excel budget racers strutting their stuff for the first time on this fantastic place for a race.

Don’t miss out as Island Magic is a great way for both competitors and spectators to finish up a year’s racing at Australia’s most picturesque and challenging race circuit.

PIARC spokesman Geoff Bull emphasized the clubs commitment to affordable family motorsport events with no change to admission to great motorsport and heritage at a budget friendly $30.00 for a weekend pass and all accompanied kids under 16 are admitted free. Free parking & trackside viewing from your own car being a feature.
