Steven Walter Children’s Cancer Foundation Named Official Charity

IR Header

The Steven Walter Children’s Cancer Foundation was formed in honour of Steven Walter, a young boy from Sydney who loved everything about motorcycling. Steve was diagnosed with cancer in 1993 when he was only 11 years old and sadly passed away in 2000. Before he passed away he asked his family and friends to hold an event to raise money for research into a cure for childhood cancer.

From humble beginnings in 2001, the Snowy Ride has grown to become a highlight for motorcyclists who enjoy riding around the highest points in Australia. Steve’s legacy continues to be honoured today through the work of SWCCF and its committed volunteers. With the Snowy Ride, other fundraising initiatives and partnerships with valued sponsors, SWCCF has raised in excess of $6 million for research into a cure.

“We’re honoured and delighted to have the Steven Walter Children’s Cancer Foundation as the official charity for the Australian round of the Superbike World Championship. Steven obviously enjoyed his motorbikes and the foundation do amazing work in raising funds to beat childhood cancer. So anything we can do to assist them in their efforts is absolutely our pleasure.”

Said Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit’s Managing Director, Fergus Cameron.

With each passing year SWCCF’s commitment to finding a cure for childhood cancer grows even stronger. But we need your help. Join us and help meet the challenge of 100% survival for all children diagnosed with cancer and the prevention of their suffering. Why? Because childhood cancer kills more Australian children than any other disease. More than 950 children will be diagnosed with cancer this year. And at any one time in Australia over 1500 children are on active treatment for cancer, or at risk of relapse.

You will find the SWCCF stand located just outside of the Expo building positioned along Gardner Straight over the event weekend. You will be able to make donations, buy merchandise and pre-register for the 2016 Snowy Ride due to take place on November 5.

Pre-purchase entry to the 2016 Motul FIM Superbike World Championship, Yamaha Finance round, at Phillip Island from February 26-28 will cost $115* for a three-day pass, $80* for a Sunday only pass, while kids 15 and under are free**. On circuit camping is just $100* for four nights, with kids 15 and under free**. Visit www.ticketek.com.au or www.worldsbk.com.au for tickets and information.
