Australia has held off a surging Team America to win the 2020 FIM Oceania Historic Road Race Cup at the 27th International Island Classic.
With the Kawasaki Racing Team of Jonathan Rea and Alex Lowes testing at the new Barcelona circuit of Montmelo, Toprak Razgatlioglu pipped Scott Redding in the Portimao two day test.
Australia has successfully defended the International Challenge winning the three-nation battle, with the locals’ 704 point haul securing victory over rivals America (691 points) and the UK third with 423 points.
Only three points separates Australia and Team America (351-348) after day one of racing in the three-nation International Challenge at Phillip Island, with California’s multi-AMA champ Josh Hayes scoring victory in race one and Melbourne’s Alex Phillis winning race two.
Completing just a few laps was all that was needed for Jonathan Rea, whilst Yamaha, Ducati and Honda all impressed inside the leading positions.
Melbourne’s Jed Metcher heads a solid Australian showing in qualifying today for this weekend’s International Challenge at the 27th Island Classic, steering his 1984 Yamaha FJ 1200 to the top spot on the grid in afternoon qualifying with a time of 1m37.248s.
